...I found it a tough one.

On my first run, I went into the first slalom too fast and ended up way late on the turns.  Second run was same story different slalom -  I was all over the place on the bottom of the course. Third run I kept it slow in first part, though I still drifted out a bit after the tight right turn near tech, then I went too fast in the sweeping left section and ended up off course! In the final run, I really concentrated in keeping my speed down in the tighter sections and took 0.7 secs off, but coned it away. I think I was onto something there, but too late!

I have been thinking about what I should have done and come up with:

  1. Stay slower in the slaloms to keep the line tight.

  2. Brake more for the tight right hander that led back across the start, so that I could take the offset gates faster.

  3. Maybe should have stayed on the gas more approaching the bump - the car seemed stable enough, but I'd seen others come unstuck.

Other than that, where did other people pick up time?

My fastest (and best driven) run went like this:

Started hard to the first right hander, where I lifted and then started to apply about 10% throttle, a quick lift to get the car around left hander, then slowly applied more and more throttle around sweeper, say 10%, 20%, 30% till I was through the gate at the merchandise tent, where I was back to full for the cross over, which was then a quick stab of the brakes, then full throttle drifting out to the right to about the entry point of the quick left hander. I quickly left foot braked (while car was pointed straight) and was full throttle around the two cones, and stayed full throttle (up shifting to third) until the bump, where it was a quick left foot brake to settle car and a downshift, ( I saw a lot of people get loose here so I kept it less than full mojo) and was applying close to 60% throttle and kept it smooth until through the offset/slalom gates where it was back to almost full throttle around the left handed sweeper in the bottom corner of the lot until the 2 cone slalom, where it was a quick lift brake turn, lift, turn dance (using full mojo), then it was almost flat (with a quick lift between the multi-cone gates, to get car pointed correctly) until the finish, with perhaps a very slight lift at the second to last orange cone gate heading to the finish.

Hope that helps to perhaps see where you may have bee able to pick up some time. All in all, I personally liked the course. Both co-driver Rob Bone and I were having a heck of a time keeping the rear end tucked in behind us, but I think it was because we were over driving the car when we should have been going "slow to go fast" and just keeping the car "settled." The way some of the transitions happened at off camber and downhill sections, you really had to keep in mind the weight transfer of the vehicle, and all its impending potential doom.

This was for my last run where I shaved off 1/2 second.

Coming out of the start in first gear. Lifted on the throttle to get the back end around, then about 60% throttle through the slalom.  Shifted into 2nd coming out of the last slalom and going into the sweeper. Again lift to get the front tires to dig in around the last sweeper cone. Full throttle through the offset gates. Brake hard into the next section of slalom cones. Tried to make a wide arc (but didn't do that very well) into the slalom. After the 3rd slalom cone I was into the throttle 100% through the 6 cone gate. I went over the jump and people said I had air underneath my tires. As soon as I reached the pinnacle of the jump I got hard on the brakes and feathered it to slow down (felt like the car was going to not stop).  Turned-in when I got the car slowed down enough. Going up the hill I made another wide arc to get the car through the slalom quicker.  Heading to the finish line I was hard on the throttle and just braked really hard for the last two slalom cones and into the finish line.

3rd run - 50.257 (shocks at full soft front and .5 turns rear)

4th run - 48.884 (shocks at full soft front and full stiff rear)
