It was May 23rd, and a beautiful Spring Day. The threat of showers was forecast for the weekend, but the day I took these photos, showers were no where to be found. Running up through the classes, ITA and ITS ran together in both heat, and final race. Since Gayle and I drive an NX 2000 and a CRX Si respectively, the heated battle between Greg Amy and Shane ____? was entertaining to say the least. In an email to Mr. Amy, I learned that even though he was in the faster ITS class, he admitted that the CRX was faster. It was all Greg could do to keep Shane behind. Then the Touring Cars, featuring well known drivers like Roger Foo and returning champ Galati. Randy Pobst won in his Porsche 911. Both the Touring and the GT classes underwent a new qualifying procedure that made for some last minute excitement for qualifying on Saturday. The main event was the ground pounding Trans Am cars, with the likes of Lou Gigliotti, and returning champion Paul Genelozzi. However it was Butch Leitzinger who was the fastest guy in the Trans-Am Series this day. You might know him better by his "Racer-X" helmet that appears out of a Prototype. When the season was all Said and done, it wasn't Paul who came up with yet another Trans-Am title. It was Boris. Most of the photos were taken in the Padock area, wandering around and most of the Touring Guys were highly visible. We even stopped and talked to Roger Foo's team mate... very friendly guy. |
